Tips For Living With A Cat And A Christmas Tree

The holiday season is here and you are probably thinking about your cat and a Christmas tree. Wishful cats of all ages are preparing to enjoy their stockings filled with toys, catnip, and Fancy Feast. It is a great time to be had by all, but for cats there are many hazards. From ribbons, to small ornaments that could be swallowed, to family leaving the door open.

Here is the big one, the Christmas tree. The best way to get your cat accustomed to the tree is to refrain from decorating it for at least a couple days. By this time your cats sense of curiosity over the tree is wearing thin. If considering a real or fake tree, a fake tree is your best move. Did you know that many tree needles are toxic to cats? If you do opt for a real tree, there is anti-chew repellent available at most pet stores, that will safely keep your pet from nibbling on your tree.

Making sure your tree is away from chairs, or other points where a cat may jump onto your Christmas tree. Another tip is to be sure your tree is adequately watered at all times to deter against needle loss as your cat may decide to eat them off the floor. Our last piece of advice is to be mindful about placing presents under the tree, cats have a great desire to dismantle shreddable material. It’s probably not a good idea to wrap chocolate covered cherries and place them under your Christmas tree. This would be an easy way to not have a great Christmas with your cat.

We hope these tips help keep your cat safe this holiday season from the many dangers that the holidays impose on them. Cat owners have often decided to not have a real Christmas tree, and that is ok. Invest in a ceramic Christmas tree that will still give your home the warmth that the Christmas season has to offer.

Merry Christmas to you and your cat!
