February is National Pet Dental Health Month

At In Home Pet Sitters we take pet health seriously. That’s why we thought we’d share some pet dental health tips from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) during February, the National Pet Dental Health Month. Like humans, the health of a pet’s mouth is relative to the health of their entire body.

The AVMA provides several different resources of pet dental health information and treatment, including an instructive video on how to brush your pet’s teeth. They explain that while National Pet Dental Health Month is a good reminder to brush your dog or cat’s teeth, it is something that should be done daily all year round. Healthy treats can help keep your pet’s gums healthy but brushing is still required. Periodontal disease is the most typical clinical condition seen in cats and dogs despite the fact that it can be easily prevented.

Your local pet sitters know your pets are like your children. We wouldn’t let our kids miss a tooth brushing, so let’s make 2014 the year we dedicate ourselves to our pets’ dental health needs.
