Flooring Ideas For Your Household With Pets

Let’s face it, flooring and pets can always be an interesting combination. Homeowners often think that soft, cushioned carpet will be the answer to their flooring needs. In all reality, the harder the floor, the better off you and your pets will be. We’ve found four flooring choices that we think will keep both homeowners and pets happy.

TRIM YOUR PET’S NAILS

When you keep your pet’s nails trimmed, all flooring will last longer. If you do have hard wood floors, the nails on your pet can often be the biggest offender when it comes to scratches. If your pet is not a fan of you trimming their nails, you need to take them to a groomer or veterinarian. Your flooring and your pet will thank you.

LINOLEUM/VINYL FLOORING

Linoleum and/or vinyl flooring is the ideal choice for homes with pets. Cat and dog hair will not get trapped in the fibers of the flooring and you will instantly see what is on the floor. Carpets hide pet dander and other things that your pets leave behind. Vinyl tiles will not be quite as good as vinyl that comes in a roll, but is an option that will work.

LAMINATE FLOORING

Laminate flooring is a great flooring choice if you have pets that don’t “piddle” now and then. Laminate floors do not show scratches and they are very easy to clean. Again, you can see everything as it lands on the floor. Pet hair and dander are easy to see and easy to sweep and/or vacuum. Test out the finish on the laminate, as extremely slippery finishes can make it difficult for pets to stay standing on all fours.

Investing in a hard floor with pets in your home can be one of the best investments you will have ever made. With carpet you will find yourself needing to replace it often due to stains or rips. With a harder surface, everyone, including your pets will be happy.
